Day 1
It has been two years since I've been to a camp. This was a completely different experience. The first part of the day was spent kayaking and pitching tents. Kayaking was very tiring and fun. Tiring because I had to keep doing the same stroke for a long time so my arms got tired. At one point, I was fighting against the current! It was also fun because I was able to see new sights and splah people using the paddle. After kayaking, I had to pitch up tents. At first, the size of the tent was about the size of a river otter until it was unfolded. I was satisfied that it could fit in the four members I had. After pitching up the tents, I had a good lunch and moved onto my next part of the day. After two years, I find the enjoyment of camp.
After lunch, we had to build a raft. If it wasn't for the instructor's "cheat code", my group would've been fighting for design ideas. The sun was baking on me but thankfully, the clouds were able to cover over the sun. We decided to name the raft SS Titanawee after one of my members "new found religion". After cooking our own delightful dinner, it was a restless night. Some person said some vulgarities and as a consequence, made all the boys go in an arch position. After that, planes kept roaring through the camp. Two planes came to the runway every half/one hour and the interval between the two planes was five-ten minutes. This experienced was one I never experienced back in Canada.
Day 2
The second day was better since we didn't get drilled as much. Although, many people woke up at 4-5 o clock with some confusion. Boys were scolded at four, then the girls at five. We didn't know what time to wake up. Then we packed the tents and ate noodles for breakfast (which I think is called bee hoon). We played a game to not break our somewhat fragile bond (people charging into interlocked hands). Then we went to Suglei Boloh to find nature trails, mangrove and bird haven and opportunity to learn about the reserve, via a worksheet! Well, it was better than Math, Science and English work and no scolding! It was hot but we enjoyed it. We got on the bus and headed for school.
The second part of the day was enjoyable. When we reached school, we had to do rope walking. I only did that once before on a smaller scale. What was really enjoyable was doing the cave activity. We had to go into this storage-like container and navigate through a through a maze of tunnels. At one point, we saw a red camera twice. The first time we thought it was the right path. The second time, I thought that it was just a way to divert us to a dead end, one tried it out and I was right. Also, we got to see other groups do it and try to make it difficult for them. We kept making remarks of what is in the cave, occasional laughter and diversion. After that and dinner which was rice, it was the campfire. My mom occasionally stepped up to join in activities the class was doing. What a great mom I have. After the campfire, I was so tired. We had to sleep in the hall. It was hot in there. However, it was a great experience.
